James M. Hudson is a partner in the Roswell, New Mexico office who also has practiced in the firm's Midland, Texas office. His practice involves litigation in state and federal courts primarily in New Mexico. Mr. Hudson’s practice includes a broad spectrum of matters involving issues relating to the oil and gas industry, commercial and banking litigation, employment law, civil rights, estate litigation, and both direct and inverse condemnation claims under the Fifth Amendment. Mr. Hudson received his B.A. in Economics With Honors from the University of Notre Dame in 1980 and his law degree from the University of New Mexico in 1984. Mr. Hudson is admitted to practice in both New Mexico and Texas, as well as various federal district and appellate courts and the United States Court of Federal Claims. He is the author of Federal Regulatory Takings and Inverse Condemnation: A Practical Primer of Do’s and Don’ts for Mineral Resource Project Proponents and Legal Practitioners, 48 Rocky Mt. Min. L. Inst. §4.01 et seq. (2002) and Professional Responsibility and Ethical Considerations in Oil and Gas Acquisitions, Oil and Gas Acquisitions, Part 11 (Rocky Mt. Min. L. Fdn. 1995). His positions of legal service include the Uniform Jury Instructions - Civil Committee of the New Mexico Supreme Court (2007-2009 term), the Jury Plan Task Force for United States District Court for the District of New Mexico (2004), the State Bar of New Mexico's Alternative Methods of Dispute Resolution Committee and Commission on Professionalism, as well as lecturing on various topics relating to the oil and gas industry, employment law, condemnation and eminent domain. His other activities have included Student Community Bible Study (Regional Director and Core Leader), Valley Christian Academy Founding Commission (2003); Roswell Chamber of Commerce; Board of Directors (1999 to 2001) and Chairman of the Legislative Committee (2000-2001); Roswell Youth Soccer Association; Coach (1999 to 2004); Tie Dye Tri-Guys, Roswell Bicycling Group; D-FY-IT of Midland, Inc. (Drug Free Youth in Texas); President (1996); Member of Governing Board (1994 to 1996); and the Roswell Symphony Orchestra, Former Member, Board of Directors.
